Here is a tutorial where we will show you a simple technique to create a glossy recycle bin in just a few steps.

Final Image Preview

First of all take a look at the final image.

Step 1

Create a new document and fill it with black.

First you will start by creating the outlines of the recycle bin. Create a new layer then use the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M) and create a selection like below. Then stroke the selection to 4px and use this color: #0090ff.

Step 2

Duplicate the layer and place it below. Then use the Transform Tool (Command + T) and make the shape a little smaller.

Step 3

Next use the Pen Tool (P) set to path and join the shapes. After you have created the path you need to create a new layer and stroke the paths again with 4px and the same color.

Step 4

Next you need to duplicate the layer you created in step 1 and move it down a few pixels so that it will look like this below.

Now make a selection using the Elliptical Marquee Tool (L) and erase the strokes created in step 3.

Step 5

You have finished creating the outlines. Now it is time to create the bin material. Create a new layer first for each selection.

You will need to use the Pen Tool (P) and create selections like below then fill the seletions with the colors shown in the images below.

Step 6

Now you will start adding the shadows and lights. You will do this by using the Burn Tool and Dodge Tool. Follow the below images to see where to use each tool.

Step 7

Create a new layer and fill it with #00a8ff then erase the lower part and set the layer Opacity to 23%.

Step 8

In this step you will have to repeat the exact technique used for step 6 but this time apply the technique to the lower part of the bin. Again you will use the same colors, Burn and Dodge Tools.

Step 9

Now it is time to create the glossy part. You will mostly create these using the Gradient Tool (G).

Create a new layer for each gloss you apply. First make a selection like below and chose the Gradient Tool (G) set to Black/Transparent and make a slight gradient like below. Set the layer to Opacity 54%.

Step 10

Create another selection like below and use the Gradient Tool (G) set to White/Transparent and create a gradient like below.

Step 11

Continue adding white gradients as you go and the bin will start taking shape. Follow the images below for reference.

Conclusion

Hope you learned some new techniques and had fun while doing so.

Here is a great tutorial that will show you how to create a vehicle dashboard using Photoshop. This tutorial was made by Constantin Potorac in collaboration with Negreu Andreas exclusively for Photoshopedia Blog.

Step 1

Create a new document and fill the document with #878787. The size of the document is 900×700.

Step 2

Use the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M) and create a circle.

Step 3

Create a new layer. Press right click on the image and chose Stroke. Apply a 16px stroke to the image using this color #ececec.

Step 4

Double click on the circle layer and apply a Bevel $ Emboss effect. Follow the image below for reference.

Step 5

Create a new layer and place it beneath the circle layer. Make another selection like below using the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M) and fill the selection with #212121.

Step 6

Create a new layer then make a selection like the circle below and fill the selection with the same grey. Keep the selection then use a soft black brush to make it like the image below. Remember to keep the

edges lighter because you will now add some shadow to the big circle using a black soft brush. You can also use the dodge tool to bring in some light.

Step 7

Select the black circle you have created inside the dashboard and apply a 4px stroke using this color #404040.

Step 8

Next you need to add some texture to the big circle. For this create a new layer and fill it with #383838. Now go to (Monochromatic, Gaussian, Amount 400%) then Filter > Blur > Motion Blur (Angle 18*, Distance

231px), then set the layer to Color Dodge and Opacity 28%. In the end make a selection of the grey circle, invert the selection and delete the excess texture. In the end make sure the texture layer is placed below the

black circle and above the big circle.

Step 9

It is time to create the screen. Use the Pen Tool (P) to create the path for the next shape then when you are finished press Ctrl + Enter to transform the path into a selection. Also create a new layer before you fill

the selection.

Fill the shape with #183070 then duplicate the shape, transform it and move it in the other side like below. Then play some more with the Pen Tool (P) and merge these 2 shapes as one.

Step 10

Double click on the new shape layer created and apply the below settings.

Step 11

Next create some texture to the shape. Select it and go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise (Amount 35.39, Uniform) then set the layer to Color Dodge and Opacity 21%.

Step 12

Next step is about creating the watch gradations. Create a new layer and use the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L) and create the below lines. Then press right click and select stroke. Set the stroke to 6px and for the

color use #0145df.

Step 13

Next erase the shown parts of the stroke.

Step 14

Next create the second round of lines. Follow the images below. For the color use #00baf2 and for the weight use 3px. Also you need to create all these lines into a new layer.

Step 15

Next you need to add some more curved lined between the gradations. You need to create a new layer for this, and then use the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M) and Lasso Tool (L) to create the selections then fill the
